A small expansion mod for Stardew Valley. This mod redesigns the vanilla Witch Swamp map to feel more vibrant and immersive. It introduces a new endgame NPC, quests, items, fish, crops, forageables, and more!
Witch Swamp was always a desolate place, with little to do besides fishing or visiting the Witch's Hut to turn babies into pigeons... With this mod, I've done my best to change that!
This mod is designed to expand endgame content by adding new quests and unlockables, giving players more to explore after completing the Community Center bundles.
This mod includes:
New NPC - Goblin
Dozens of quests and events (including custom quests for Alecto the Witch(Mod)
4 new fish and 3 crabpot species
4 New Crops & Forage
6 new cooking and crafting recipes
3 New Color Variants for Witch Swamp Map
Meet the Goblin! Yep, that's the henchman you hand void mayo to and then he just vanishes. His name is Zic, and he now lives a full life in the Witch Swamp...
This mod introduces over 20 new conditional quests and events—befriend the Goblin to uncover his story and earn special items, quests, and recipes! There are also special quest lines for Alecto the WitchNPC - This is optional, but you can install it to enhance gameplay and unlock additional NPC interactions.
Explore the Witch Swamp to uncover new forageable items and discover dark crop experiments in the Witch's Gardens!
There are 2 new forage items and 2 new crops in total — gather them for special crafting recipes or sell them for extra profit. Learn more about new crops and forage here!
4 new dishes and 1 special crafting recipe have been added! Befriend a Goblin and complete special quests to unlock it!
All about installation, configuration, compatibility, plus a quick FAQ on mods and future update plans.
Why "Distant Lands"?
Nothing special about it, I just wanted a mod name that's easy to remember. The name is mainly inspired by Adventure Time: Distant Lands. Also, Witch's Swamp is indeed quite far away.
Is this compatible with "Mod_Name"? Check the compatibility section below or ask about specific mods in the comments if you're unsure.
Are there any glitches? There are indeed a few bugs in my mod, but they shouldn't impact gameplay significantly. One issue you might notice is that Goblins occasionally walk through impassable tiles.
The second issue involves extended loading times upon entering the WitchSwamp map. This occurs only when the "Water Overlay" option is enabled in the configuration. If you encounter excessively long load times, we recommend disabling this setting.
Third - If you use any recolors, the water color in Witch Swamp may differ from the screenshots in my mod. Better Water 2 mod compatibility is enabled by default. You can disable it in my mod's settings if you prefer the original witch swamp water colors.
If you encounter a bug, please report it in the comments or the Bugs section with your SMAPI log attached.
Future updates? I'm planning to add new events, quests, and vanilla NPC interactions—maybe even new maps and items... Plus bug fixes, of course.
Translate to other languages? Probably not, but if you want to translate my mod—go ahead and create a translation, then upload it here on Nexus (only upload the translated files and set my mod as a requirement).
Same as always:
Install SMAPi, Content Patcher, and all other required mods.
Extract the "Distant Lands - Witch Swamp Overhaul" archive into the Stardew\Mods folder.
Launch the game with SMAPI.
Enjoy.
Note:
For Stardew Valley 1.6, you only need ContentPatcher and Farm Type Manager.
For Stardew Valley 1.5.6, you will also need Extra Map Layers and Custom NPC Exclusions.
Recolor: default, green, crimson, void - alters the visual style and color palette of the Witch Swamp map
Water Overlay: on, off - enables default water animation overlay for Witch Swamp water tiles (requires game reload after disabling!) WARNING: Enabling this feature will increase load times when entering or leaving the WitchSwamp map. If you do not wish to wait 3–5 seconds for the WitchSwamp map to load each time, we recommend disabling it.
Better BetterWater Compatibility - Enabled by default, prevents the Better Water 2 mod from altering water color in the WitchSwamp map.
Darker Ambient Light - Slightly darkens the lightning in Witch Swamp.
Compatible with other expansions like SVE, Ridgeside, East Scarp, Alecto NPC, etc... Compatible with recolors like Earthy Recolor, VPR, Starblue, etc. (However, they will not apply to witch swamp tiles, as I use my own custom tile sets.) Compatible with NPC portraits and sprites mods (but they won't change the Goblin portrait) (since I use my own custom portrait sprites) Compatible with mods that add new fish to Witch Swamp Compatible with The Witch's Familiar - Nul Envoide ---------------------------------------------- Incompatible with Wild Witch Swamp mod. Incompatible with mods that alter the Witch Swamp map.
WARNING: If SVE is installed, my mod will completely replace the SVE Henchman NPC with my own version. It also restores the original Witch Swamp warp points. What this means:
The Henchman's Hut will not appear on the Forbidden Maze map in Stardew Valley Expanded.
There will be no SVE Henchman content, events, or updates.
Vanilla Witch Swamp warp points will be restored (WitchWarpCave will now lead to Witch Swamp instead of Forbidden Maze—this is a configurable option and can be disabled in my mod's settings).
Access to the SVE Forbidden Maze map remains available via an alternate path near Zic's campfire (configurable), allowing you to explore it as before.
The Forbidden Maze map and its warp points will remain unchanged, with no new content added aside from an additional pathway leading to the vanilla Witch Swamp map.
If you prefer the SVE Henchman, install the MAP ONLY version of this mod (and adjust warps in my mod's config if necessary).
