Before jumping into the rankings, it is crucial to understand that Mewgenics does not have traditional “Classes” you select at a menu. A “Class” in this game is a fluid archetype defined by two things:
- • Genetics: The base stats and innate traits inherited from breeding (e.g., a “Bulky” body type gives HP).
- • Held Items: The gear that defines their active skills (e.g., holding a ‘Rusty Shiv’ makes them a Rogue).

The Mutation Stacker (Rogue Archetype)
Core Components: High Speed/Crit Genes (Whip Tail) + Multi-hit Daggers.
Why it’s Broken: Currently, certain mutations trigger “on critical hit.” If you breed a cat with maxed-out crit chance and give them a weapon that hits 3 times per turn, you can trigger an infinite loop of free actions or massive bleed stacks. It deletes bosses before they can move.

The “Nine-Lives” Paladin (Tank Archetype)
Core Components: “Square” Body Shape (Max Defense) + Heavy Shield/Armor Item.
Why it’s Broken: In Mewgenics, defense isn’t just damage reduction; high enough defense makes AI enemies ignore the target completely. A well-built Paladin can block a doorway and take zero damage from 90% of attacks, creating a safe zone for your squishy mages to cast spells freely.
A-Tier: The Reliable Backbones
These are excellent, consistent builds that should form the core of most of your dungeon-running teams.

The Fire/Poison Mage (DoT Caster)
Why it’s Good: Burst damage falls off in later stages where enemies have huge HP pools. Damage over Time (DoT) effects like Fire and Poison stack exponentially. A mage that can blanket a room in status effects is the safest way to clear dense mobs without exposing yourself to melee counters.

The Battle Cleric
Why it’s Good: You cannot rely on finding food items to heal. A dedicated healer with a decent staff is mandatory for any run aiming past the mid-game. We rank them A-tier instead of S because they cannot win a fight alone—if your tank dies, the Cleric dies next turn.
B-Tier: Situational & Niche Picks
These archetypes can work, but they usually require very specific legendary items or perfect scenarios to shine.

The Generic Archer / Ranger
Ranged physical damage sounds great on paper. In practice, Mewgenics dungeons are cluttered with rocks, debris, and your own teammates blocking line-of-sight. Archers often spend half their turns repositioning just to get a clear shot, wasting valuable action economy.

The Glass Cannon Berserker
Melee damage dealers with zero defense investment. They are fantastic in the first two zones where they one-shot everything. By zone three, they get stunned and killed in a single round by elite enemies. Too risky for consistent runs.
C-Tier: The “Reroll Immediately” Pile
Do not invest expensive resources into these builds unless you are doing a “meme run” for streaming content.

The Bard (Pure Support)
Buffing an ally’s damage by 15% is almost always worse than just bringing a fourth damage dealer who deals 100% damage. Until support items get buffed in a future patch, leave the instruments at home.

Base House Cat with Bad Genes
A cat born with traits like “Frail” (-HP), “Stupid” (acts randomly), or “Lazy” (skips turns) is useless regardless of what item you give them. Their only utility is as breeding fodder to try and breed the bad genes out of the bloodline.
Best Beginner Classes to Start With
If you are just starting Mewgenics and keep wiping, stop trying to build complex Rogue combos. Keep it simple.
- The Brick (Pure HP Tank): Find the fattest cat you have and give it the heaviest object you can find. Your goal isn’t to deal damage; it’s to survive mistakes while you learn enemy patterns.
- The Zapper (Simple Mage): A cat with high intelligence genes holding a basic lightning wand. It has auto-aim properties that make it very forgiving for new players who struggle with positioning.
Essential Team Compositions (Synergies)
You don’t take one cat into a dungeon; you take a squad. Synergy is more important than individual tier ranking.

The Meta “Phalanx” (Safest): 1 S-Tier Paladin (Point guard) + 2 A-Tier DoT Mages (Damage dealers) + 1 A-Tier Cleric (Sustain). The Paladin holds the choke point, the mages cast over their head, and the cleric keeps everyone topped off. - •
The “Rush Down” (Speedrun): 3 Mutation Rogues + 1 buffer/debuffer. High risk, designed to kill everything on turn 1 before the enemy can act.
Final Thoughts & Similar Games
Remember, you can’t just “find” an S-Tier class lying around in Mewgenics. An S-Tier Paladin needs S-Tier defense genes, which you have to breed for. If you are struggling to get the right stats, or RNG keeps giving your prized kittens terrible mutations, it might be time to look at external help.
