Editor’s Note: Don’t Bring a Holosight
First, we had the “Interstellar Navigation” quest that forced us to crawl through a warehouse. Now, Professor Mallard wants us to “Collect Samples in a Space Storm.” Before you buy a spacesuit—don’t. You aren’t leaving the planet.
The “Space Storm” is the community name for the new Dynamic EMP Weather Event added in the 2026 update. It hits the Red Desert map randomly, turning the sky purple and disabling all electronic devices. If you go in unprepared, your red dot sight will fail, your radio will screech static, and you will die to a Scav with an iron-sight Mosin.

What is the “Space Storm”? (Quick Definition)
In Escape from Duckov, the Space Storm is a dynamic weather event exclusive to the Red Desert map. It is NOT actual space travel.
Event Mechanics:
- The Effect: A map-wide EMP Blast that disables all electronic devices (Red Dot Sights, Laser Modules, Night Vision Goggles, and Digital Watches).
- The Duration: Lasts for exactly 10 minutes.
- The Goal: You must place 3 Isotope Analyzers in the “Impact Crater” specifically during this blackout window to collect charged particles for Professor Mallard.
Quest Rewards: Is It Worth the Risk?
This is a mainline story quest, meaning you are blocked from progressing until you finish it.
| Reward Category | Item / Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Experience | 18,000 XP | Huge boost for mid-game leveling. |
| Unlock | Purchase: Geiger Counter | Unlocks at Trader Science Duck (LL2). |
| Item | 2x Mil-Spec Batteries | Rare crafting component. |
| Reputation | +0.08 (Professor Mallard) | Needed for high-tier energy weapons. |
Loadout Guide: The EMP-Proof Build
The Space Storm changes the meta. Your $50,000 thermal scope is a paperweight here.
1. Optics: Use “Etched Reticles”
You need scopes that have the crosshair physically painted on the glass.
- Recommended: ACOG 4x, Elcan Specter, or standard Iron Sights.
- Avoid: EOTech, Romeo Red Dot, Vortex Holo (These will turn off).
2. Consumables: Painkillers
The storm causes a status effect called “Magnetic Migraine,” which creates a screen tremor. Pre-pop Ibuprofen or Golden Star Balm to keep your hands steady.
3. The Item: Isotope Analyzers
You need to buy 3x Portable Analyzers from the trader before the raid. They take up 1×1 slots. Put them in your Secure Container so you don’t lose them if you die.
Step-by-Step: Placing the Analyzers
Step 1: Wait for the Signal
Deploy into Red Desert. Loot the outskirts until you hear the “Thunder Crack” sound and the sky turns purple. The EMP is now active.
Step 2: Rush the Impact Crater
Head to the center of the map (Grid E5). The area is radioactive, but the storm temporarily suppresses the radiation (Lore logic: the storm absorbs it).
Step 3: Place the Analyzers
Interact with these three specific spots. You have to hold the interact key (F) for 10 seconds per device.
Inside the crashed satellite wreckage (Center).
On the northern ridge, next to the dead scorched tree.
At the bottom of the pit, near the yellow barrel.
Step 4: Defend for 60 Seconds
Once placed, the analyzer has a countdown. You must stay within 15 meters. Watch the ridge lines—other players will be rushing the crater too.
Troubleshooting: “Why Can’t I Place It?”
A lot of players report bugs on this quest. Here is the fix:
- “No Prompt” Bug: If you don’t see the “Place” prompt, try crouching and looking directly at the ground texture.
- “Wrong Time” Error: You cannot place the analyzers if the storm has ended. Look at the sky—if it’s blue, you missed your window. Extract and try again.
How XMODhub Helps When Your HUD Dies
The scariest part of the Space Storm is losing your in-game compass and minimap (if you have the GPS item). The EMP kills them all.

- External Overlay: Our Interactive Map Overlay is an external layer, meaning the game’s EMP logic cannot disable it. You can still see your extraction points clearly.
- Storm Timer: XMODhub automatically detects the weather state and displays a “Storm Remaining” countdown timer on your screen, so you know exactly how many seconds you have left.
- Static Crosshair: Since your red dot is dead, use the XMODhub Static Crosshair to keep your aim true in close-quarters combat.
Navigate the blackout when everyone else is blind.
Conclusion
The “Collect Samples in Space Storm” quest is a gear check. It forces you to abandon modern technology and rely on raw gun skill and map knowledge.
Remember: Iron sights, painkillers, and patience. Don’t let the purple fog panic you. Get in, plant the beacons, and get out before the radiation comes back online.

I was so used to relying on my red dot sights, but once the Space Storm hit, I realized how much I depended on electronics. It really makes you rethink your entire loadout, especially when going up against Scavs.
